Our Story

Meadows Cafe began when we found the old Workhouse and knew this beautiful building deserved a new chapter. Our aim is to create a welcoming spot with food and drink made from the best local ingredients we can find.

We're proud to be caretakers of this piece of Welsh history, 'Y Dolydd' - The Meadows - while making it a place for the community today.

The cafe is now run by Blue Monday Coffee Roasters, based just up the road, bringing their own freshly roasted coffee to this special setting. Whether you're a local or just passing through, we're here to serve good food and great coffee in this unique piece of Welsh history.

The Workhouse

The Workhouse is a remarkable piece of local history. Built in 1838, it stands as one of the best-preserved Victorian workhouses in the country.

Once home to the most vulnerable in the community, this building is now a vibrant space for everyone to gather.

The building's restoration is a labour of love, led by a brilliant team of volunteers who are passionate about preserving its character and sharing its stories. Come and see their work for yourself. While you're here, take a wander through the gardens. We're always happy to share a story about the Workhouse's fascinating past.
